Sean,

It's always a balance of cost vs performance in the recreational arena.
Fortunately these low cost microprocessors are fast enough to produce more
than adequate response time for sensor data collection and information
display.  Even if it were as slow as 1hz refresh (it's much faster than
that) that would likely be adequate for our particular application.
