A bit of clarification:
Transformers change one AC voltage to another.
Rectifiers convert AC to DC.
Inverters convert DC to AC.
(rectifier --> inverter) is a variable frequency drive.
(inverter --> rectifier) is a DC-DC converter.
Sorry, can't help you with specifics. I don't deal much with DC components.
