Hank,THANK YOU for this email.  I tried to reply before but for some reason my email is giving me grief (in fact I've sent 5 messages to the psubs list and have only seen 2 of them show up).  I've attached pictures of my sub to 2 of them and I'm now thinking that may have been at least part of the issue (based on something I just read on the psubs website).  Other than an arc welder, cutting torch and cut off wheel, I have few tools for working with steel myself but my nephew in Texas has access to everything in a modern machine shop (he can even print parts and do CNC in 4 axis!).  Thank you (and everyone else) for your advice!  Hearing how others have done things or suggestions to consider will no doubt pay off for me as I work on these final details.  I'll try and upload pictures soon to give you an idea of what my sub looks like.  Jim,Here is a picture of my pump housing with motor and prop tube.  I did upgrade my pump housing to accept a mechanical seal to maintain my 1,000 foot depth rating.  You can stick with the inexpensive spring loaded mechanical seal.
