Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Model of Bushnell's Turtle

Hi Mike.

I think the site was in error or else was speaking in relative terms of "turtle", since a British admiral was calling
another submarine the (by that time generic name of) "turtle" since Bushnell's boat was well known by that time.
Go to this site and scroll down to 1812-1815 and you will see the other "turtle" they may have been talking about.
But you are correct, the model site is misleading and makes you think David Bushnell's turtle was resurrected
and used again. That did not happen.
This boat is a mystery and is only recorded and preserved in one of firearms inventor Samuel Colts notebooks
with a simple drawing of it. Bill Akins. http://www.submarine-history.com/NOVAone.htm

Once again, there's a reference to other attacks.  This is the first time
I've seen the Turtle listed as the one in the War of 1812.  Where are they
getting the information?
