Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] link

Hi Skeet.

Thanks for the links. I have seen many sites like those you sent. They all have electronic circuit boards that you can make DC motor controllers from.
However the problem is you have to waterproof and pressureproof their units. I can make the same thing without their circuit boards by simply using
a standard household rotary light dimmer switch encased in a length of pvc pipe with an O ring seal around the shaft, or my best idea is to attach a
rare earth neodemium circular magnet (a high end speaker magnet would work) to my dimmer's shaft inside the pvc pipe, and then use another circular
magnet located outside the pvc, and when I turned the outside magnet, it would turn the inside magnet attached to the dimmer switch shaft. That is what
I may have to make, but I am hoping to find a ready made, waterproof, pressureproof unit that I can just buy. Thanks for thinking of me and sending me the
links though.

Hello Bill -

I am new to this sort of thing, but when you sent your last post it brought an idea to me.  If you are handy at building, perhaps you could use a kit to build your motor control.  You could then use some of the common techniques for handling pressure in its packaging.

Below I have listed several links for kits to build a DC motor control.  The single direction motor control will handle motors up to 60 volts at 7.5 amps.  The bi-directional device will handle motors using 12 to 32 Volts DC @ 5 Amps.  If you can use a soldering iron, you can make one of these.

Best of luck,

I'm still trying to find a site that has VARIABLE speed controllers that are both WATERPROOF and PRESSUREPROOF for use in my wetsub.
So far no luck. Something like a motorcycle twist grip with a "dead mans" return spring would be nice, or even a simple grip lever like a motorcycle brake lever,
but at this point I would consider ANY waterproof and pressureproof variable speed switch. I may have to make one out of a light dimmer switch and pvc pipe but
it sure would be nice to just be able to buy something for a change instead of having to make everything. If any of you find something like this, please let me know.
I have searched and searched without any result. I even checked with Honeywell electronics and talked with their main variable speed switch tech, but he was unable
to locate both a waterproof and pressureproof variable switch for me, he did have lots of variable speed switches that were water "resistant" but that wouldn't do under
pressure. And yes we DID look at all his magnetic proximity switches. I could use one of them, but they are not VARIABLE in speed.
Somebody needs to manufacture a magnetic proximity, variable speed motor switch, that is both waterproof and pressureproof for wetsubbers and DPV's in general.
DPV scooters have magnetic proximity switches. Mine has one too. But they are not variable. My scooter has two switches, one for 2 mph and then I squeeze the other
one at the same time for 3 mph. But that is not variable from zero to full power. That is just on or off with another switch giving me 1 extra mph of power.
Of course if I wasn't looking for the darn thing I would see it everywhere I looked. Grin, Sigh.

Steve,

That's a great site. especially the GUIDED FEATURES TOUR, for people like me, with limmited knowlidge of electronics.

just in case it's useful to anyone...

make electric vehicle speed controllers and have a sister site www.4qdtec.com with lots of good info.
pay the small subscription fee its worth it!
