Hi Ludvig,
Doug Farrow built Undaunted from plywood. The Undaunted is an ambient
submersible. Which means the hull was not pressure proof. Still it was an
operational submersible.

The only plywood sub I know was the Submanaut from Helle Engineering
Inc., San Diehgo, calif. USA build in 1964.
The Pressure hull was made from 103 mm strong Plywood and GFK /GRP cover
of 19 mm. So 122 mm or 4.8 inch in total. Its run up to 1969 and was
used to test electronics. Makes 45 Dives and 65 dive hours.
The pressure hull looks like a egg. Exit hatch was 420 mm diameter
Sail high 600mm. Hardtank of 50 Liter, Drop weight of 135 kg.
Dive deep was 60 meter and calculate destroy was 305 meter.
Hull was 1,2 x 2,4 , length 2,9m - beam 1,8 - high 1,7 m.
Weight 1,8 t 2 Person sub. One windo of 610 mm in the bow.
One main drive iof 1,1 kw and two other of 0,75 kw.
Powered by 24 v 5 kwh battey. Speed was 1 kn for four hours or 1,5 kn
for 2 hours.
Equipment was : Kompass, sounde, telephon, Tracking-Pinger and other
electronics.
A pressure hull of such strong plywood and such strong GRP sounds
expensibve to me. Maybe the only reason to make it such way was to
the test the electronics.
