Ludvig,
Yes, it is a dry ambient composite "facsimile" of the USS Octopus from 1906 with some additions and modifications that were not on the original. It is not intended to be a true replica. I chose this particular design in part for aesthetic scale, ease of construction, and the underwater stability issue Ray just mentioned to you.
I am choosing marine plywood composite for the crew compartment, frames, sail and deck casing for two reasons mainly, availability and trailer able weight.
The design choice lends itself to much easier manipulation of weight and balance, along the longitudinal axis of the hull because of the nearly central location of the sail and crew module.
Hydrodynamic effect is crucial in this design, and thus the empennage and flat deck, for precise "pitch" control at a very shallow snorkel depth. It is going to be necessary to get W&B and near neutral buoyancy, right on the money.
It's a neat toy Ludvig, a little cabin cruiser pretending to be a submarine. It will cost, as a conservative estimate somewhere between $25 & $30K (US), based upon a standard calculation of $4 to $5 per lb of displacement.
Specifications as drawn are.
