Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Hull Shaping Question

Rob,

You say a shallow WET sub for 200ft. I'm guessing you really mean a DRY sub don't you?

You can make your hull out of steel with standard tank ends and create what ever shape you want to affix to it out of fiberglass. My K-350 sub, "Persistence" is made like that. The fore and aft fiberglass fairings are the main ballast tanks.

Subject: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Hull Shaping Question

I have some questions about hull construction and was
hoping that some of y'all might be able to lend a
little assistance?

The project I am working on is a shallow water sub
(designed for lake use, max lake depth is 200') and so
I am making a slightly pointed nose cone for the bow
of the sub.

My questions are:

- What is the terminology for the processes of
rolling a shaped hull?
- Does anyone out there have any experience in
producing such a nose cone shape?
- Since I will likely be outsourcing this part of the
assembly to an ASME certified welding shop (for safety
reasons) how could I best convey what I am trying to
achieve more coherently than I have above?
- Does anyone know of any other nose cone shaped subs
out there?

Any help would be apreciated!

Thanks,
Rob
