Hi George.
I've been drift diving several times at
Rainbow river springs. The headsprings section is a park where they will
not allow swimminng past the swimmers rope bondaries. They also will not
allow
any dive equipment to be taken into the water
at the headsprings. So we always put in a little downriver at K.P. hole.
K.P. hole is a park too, but one is a state park and the other a county
park.
No problems at K.P. hole. You just pay your
$3.00, get your wrist band and go. Last time we went there, we took two
cars and parked one at the bridge's parking lot way south downriver. Then
we
took the other car back north to K.P. hole
and put in there to drift dive. We drifted 3 hours to the bridge, then got
out, took one car from the bridge's parking lot and went back and picked
up the other
car at K.P. hole. A dive buddy and I were
thinking of doing a spring dive this weekend. Maybe K.P. hole. The temp is
always 72 degrees and the viz is always very good. If you stay in the
middle of the
river your draft should be ok. Some parts of
the river do get very shallow, but if you stay right in the middle you
should be ok. What time were you thinking
of going to K.P. hole George? It would be fun
for us to dive alongside your ROV while you test it. I don't have an
underwater camera, but if you have an underwater camera I could take some
pictures of it for you underwater.
Also if you want to coordinate us meeting up
here is my phone number. (727) 819-8352
Bill Akins.

There's loads of hotels in Ocala if you
want to hit the springs, I'd take Magical Child to Rainbow River.. since
they allow powered vehicles as well as swimers in that one... although
there are points where there is only a couple feet of water, so if your
draft is too deep you won't be able to make it all the way through (but
you can always turn back to the KP hole)
