Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] atlantis submersible

Hi Jon,

Yes. On a family vacation last year to Hawaii, I rode
the Atlantis sub off Honolulu.

The experience was much like the submarine ride at
Disney ride. The running commentary was dumbed down
for the average citizen. Bad jokes. Objects were
strategically placed.

The boat ride to and from the sub was much like a
ferry boat. The fun part was they stopped short and
waited for the sub to release bubbles. That showed the
boat where the sub was to make sure the boat stayed
clear.

That day they were operating two subs and I was on the
scheduled for the second, and smaller sub. 48 people
as opposed to 68.

The sub blew bubbles. The boat stayed clear. Once on
the surface the boat came along side the sub. Two
hatches opened and the previous passengers climbed up
and out of the sub and onto the boat. Then us next set
of passengers filed onto and down into the sub. The
line added to the Disney Land feel.

Inside the big viewports were like looking into a hugh
aquarium. Water clear enough to see over 100 feet.
Fish here and there in schools and in great variety.

Off Honolulu they sunk some planes and ships for
arificial reefs. And some universities sunk their own
artificial reefs. The sub passed between these showing
off the fish. With out the reefs the area would just
be sand.

I probably was the only passenger that appreciated the
technology to get safely down there and back. At each
end of the cabin they had a digital depth guage. Our
max depth was around 130 feet.

Everyone did take noticed when they passed around a
section of one of the view ports. It was about 4
inches thick and very heavy.

Air conditioned. Running commentary. Good view. In a
sub. Go for it.

Regards,
Ray
