Hi Mike,
I find it interesting to see someone going through precisely the same
"evolution" track that I took in the beginning. It was the idea of a
"Nautilus" replica, (same dimensions), that sparked my interest as well.
Eventually developing into a (shrinking) military ambient replica, then the
acquisition of the K350 plans, and has now morphed into a serious course of
study in Naval Architecture, CAD, and Yacht Design. A bit over the top
perhaps for most but, such is how one is inspired to pursue one's
interests.
I'll take several of your postings and post a comment below them since this
is such a familiar road for me, that I can not help but respond. However,
please do not take offense to my pointing out several realities that cannot
be circumvented.

Nautilus cannot be built as a viable 1ATM design without the use of a
double hull. (Cylindrical pressure hull, free flooding decorative decagon
shape external is what would be required). Ala Pat Regan, out there in
Hawaii.
? Cost Limit: $35,000.00 (1000/ft?)
? Material: Aluminum
There is a rule of thumb in cost estimation for vessels where $4 to $6 per
pound of displacement is what can be expected. Alec Smyth, an experienced
sub builder / pilot, was just quoted in an article at approx $10K for a
K250, which weighs in I believe, at 2,250 lbs, so this works out to $4.44
lb. Marine Aluminum is outrageously priced, easily triple your quoted
figure.
