Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Kort nozzles

That's great for a homemade and light weight ROV kort. And yes, a very clever method that I will employ in the same manner for an ROV.

But, what Alec is after, and what is really difficult, is that foil section on the inside of a Marin type Kort nozzle.

There doesn't seem to be a ready made off the shelf version of this available to us PSUBBERS without buying a complete unit.

We should all keep our eyes open for sources, otherwise Carstens mold method may be the only available homebuilt option here.

George, you are an absolute genius. I've been struggling with this one for a bit.

I've made mine out of PVC, warm with a heat gun and then warp it to the shape you need.

    Alec,

As a coincidence, my recent foray into the homebuilt ROV, world had me come to the same conclusion as to the difficulty of homebuilt Kort nozzles.

I was taking a quick peek at the hovercraft crowd for ideas, when I stopped to get back to marine studies.

Hope this turns into a viable lead, Doug has some leads on his website as well.

I've been searching the web for a supplier of Kort nozzles, but all I can find is custom jobs for ocean going ships. I did find www.propguardmarine.com, but what I'm really after is known as a Marin 19A type nozzle, in a size of around 15" ID. I would try and turn a nozzle on my lathe, but the lathe is a couple of inches too small. Has anyone given thought to fabrication methods for this other than machining out of solid material?

      thanks,

      Alec
