Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Overpowered?
If you notice the railings set up on top of the boat, you can see how
badly the steel buckled at the top. I've seen more pictures of this at
work, and let me tell you, it got messed up something bad.

Some of those are worth checking out. It's more of the USS San
Francisco (SSN-711). The ones of it pulling into port after the
accident show that the nose is lower than the tail. Usually when those
boats are fully surfaced, the nose rides just a little higher than the
tail. The reason for the change is because of the damaged ballast
tank(s) on the forward end.

This is a good read about the incident. He makes a good point as to
how he knew the pictures weren't photoshopped. The mint green color
inside the tanks is quite hideous, and nobody doctoring a photo would
think to make it that color had they not been inside one of those
tanks.
But as far as design goes, he makes other good points about the
ballast tanks on 688 class boats. The way they're divided helps out
quite a bit in situations like this one.

Had read about this accident last year but, never did see any pictures. This
gives a little visual perspective to the speed capabilities of these guys.
