Hi,

I noticed that there are not any pictures. How can we
learn without details..... :(
Educated guesses then:

Moving at 7mph, with pipes sticking up, and "several
tanks of gas" tells me this had an gasoline engine.
Certainly these guys are not PSUBS regulars. Gasoline
engines in a submersible are no-nos.

As for spotting three pipes skimming across the sea.
Radar would have a hard time to pick up plastic. They
had to be huge pipes to be spotted visually. Maybe
infrared?

Why three pipes? Intake, exhaust, and periscope?
Wouldn't exhaust melt plastic?

How does one capture a submerged object with just
three plastic pipes poking up? Drive a dingy over to
them and yell down the tube, "Surface, this is the
Goast Guard!"? Park a cutter across their path and
they will surface to see what it was they crashed
into? Go fishing with a few hand granades (silly you
might actually sink it).

What is happening to these subs once captured. eBay
would be a great way to recoup some of the drug
fighting costs. Of course bad guys might just buy them
back for a refit for another try. I guess they will go
to the scrap heap.
