RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Pictures of drug "sub"

I am in complete agreement.

It's one of those huge-risks -vs- huge-rewards businesses.  I remember watching a news report (long before 9/11) about Columbian drug rings purchasing retired commercial airline jets, gutting out everything that wasn't absolutely necessary, then filling them full of drugs and flying them into the US.  By the time the DEA arrived on the remote strip they had landed on, the drugs and pilots were long gone... having intentionally abandoned the plane.
When the drug cartels consider the cost of a commercial jetliner as a one-time "transport fee", that's some serious money being made.
We know that the sub captured several months ago in Columbia was being designed with the help of Russian experts. I can guarantee you that we will see more and more technological advancements in their methods of transportation. Stealth planes, stealth boats, and advanced submarines are not that far off (if not already out there). We (in this group) know what's available as far as submarine technology is concerned.
And that in and of itself is why I don't think American, Canadian, or European governments worry about our hobby. As much as we pride ourselves in our technological prowess, we're not even a blip on the radar when it comes to the scale drug smuggling is on.
Consider this: For those of you who own a PSUB, how much cargo can you carry? And I mean filling it up so that your sub is barely able to surface.  Now? how far can you go? Remember: Drug smugglers couldn?t give a rat?s patootie about depth or safety; the sub is merely a form of transportation.  Both the sub and its crew are expendable. Could anyone on this forum make it from 20 miles off shore onto a secluded beach in the middle of the night?

Just my thoughts on the matter,

The question was asked "how many ppeople have drowned in one of these things?"

Considering your calculations on their profitability, how many have succeeded?

Very interesting. Looks like ventilation was a least..a consideration. Nice
and grey too...real hard to see!

Side note: 3 tons of cocaine eh? The following quote from the web.....

"A 'halve' sells for $125. Therefore, from a single ounce, the importer can
create 56 'halves' which will retail at about $7,000."

7K x 96,000 Ozs = a potential street value of $ 672,000,000 million, a
little more than half a billion.

Do you think some one somewhere is hopping mad?

Do you think submarine smuggling will be tried again??
