Subject: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Viewport
retaining bolts
I'm building viewport seats for flat disc viewports
like the ones in a K-350 coning tower. But I'm wondering about a little detail
that folks surely have some practical advice on. The acrylic is to be retained
by a screwed-down ring. With that arrangement, how do you avoid rust in the
bolt threads? (my seats are not SS). I'm thinking I could use studs with nuts
instead of bolts, though it wouldn't look nice. Or I could get fancy and use O
rings to keep the threads dry. But everyone else seems to use ordinary SS
bolts and I haven't seen rust streaks coming from them. How d'you manage that,
are you just gooping the threads up with some sealant?
Thanks,
Alec
