[PSUBS-MAILIST] Holes, What holes

Greetings SMMOM's

For the lucky ones of use that have a Stachiw book to reference, you might like to look at page 275.  There is shows a sub that looks like a earlier model of the Delta. With a saddle conning tower support and an odd diver helmet looking contraption on top of the front MBT.  I have not had a chance to look through the Bugsby book to see if it's there. Perhaps it is the Alpha or Gamma sub, built by Doug Privitt. Maybe Vance can enlighten use.  Any ways here it the pictures quote.

"Figure 8.6

Mounting retaining of the window and arrangement utilizing through bolting of acrylic window. As sole seal serves the bearing gasket underneath the window. This type of mounting has been used on windows in some submersibles with success. However, because of the potential crack initiation caused by the presence of holes in the acrylic and over tightening of the bolts, it is not accepted by ASME PVHO-1 Standard. "

I notice one thing over and over in the book. That they want you to have a primary and secondary seal on your acrylic ports. So one way or another designing your ports to have a proper double seal arrangement is a good plan. They show us many options for sealing acrylic ports.
