[PSUBS-MAILIST] diesel electric propulsion module

I wonder if an alternative to a full sized "walk-in engine room" could be
a small, compact diesel/electric propulsion module (like something "under
the hood"), and only accessible for maintenance while the sub is inshore,
or maybe safer, when disassembled on dry land?

** On a side note....I think making a psub with "modules" is a good idea. I
