Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Opinions About Design

George,

This is an ROV...correct? The static buoyancy you mention in the float section...syntactic foam?

If it is...have you found a way to make this at home with any degree of accuracy?...(lbs lift per sq ft).

With the thrusters as far from the vertical axis as they are, it should spin around that axis like a figure skater! Makes me wonder if you would even need reversing motors, differential thrust on one alone just may do the job. Looks like a pretty stable little guy!

Ok, attached is a front view of how BugEye II is configured.

I'm thinking of taking the keel weight, (the black dot) and putting it on some sort of telescoping arm so I can drop it down furhter, and splitting the BCU (the white squarish box) into two pontoons and also putting them on some sort of telescoping arm so they can be pushed out futher on a 45 degree angle so they will be not only further apart but also futher from the main body so the center of bouyancy will be much futher away from the main preasure body/can than if everything was pulled back in as far as it would go.

You'd retract everything to be as close to the body as possible for maximum manueverability and "spryness (cant' thing of another word) and extend everything for stability but less manueverability.

Yes?

I'll be working a little more on BugEye II this weekend, I have an optician
friend who owns his own shop that's going to make a custom lense for the
camera portal for me. this will "Complete" the main preasure can of the
unit.

Now I was going to do a "typical" arrangement of a ballast on top,
keelweight and wing thrusters... but..... I'm wondering if some sort of
pontoon and drop weight config would be better.

I.E. I'm wondering if I should make pontoons that can be extended further
out and up (at a 45 degree angle) from the preasure can by about half meter
and a keelweight also on some sort of extender that could be lowered the
same distance.

This way I could completley extend the pontoon style ballast and weight for
greater stability when needed and retract them closest to the body (main
preasure can) for greatest manueverability.

I'm just wondering if this configuration would actually give a easily
noticable performance boost or if on something as small as BugEye II would
be negligable.

Opinions? Comments? Smack upside the head cause I'm missing something
obvious?
