Thanks to everyone for the input. After some thought I began to see
that the interior space of a 35ft Nautilus is very limited.  Even at
35ft The wheel house would be quite small. The more I ponder the more
I'm thinking of making the Nautilus a boat. Or better yet one that
submerges only one atmosphere or 33ft. I guess I'd still like it to be
1ATM because my ears don't react well with pressure changes.

The plate on frame construction was what I wanted to try. Make the
decagon frames and weld aluminum plates to the frames and the
neiboring plates. The only intrusions to the interior would be the
ballast tanks. I'm sure the next sentence someone writes is "It is not
possible to have a 1ATM sub with plate on frame construction." I hope
it is possible.
